Meet The New Skincare Brand On A Mission To Boost Bare-Faced Confidence

When aestheticians have clients with inflamed skin, they often advise them to pare down their product usage. Hannah Chang, founder of 000Skin, hopes her brand’s products remain in their rotation even then to calm their irritation.

000Skin, pronounced triple zero skin, is launching today with two products: $45 Relief Serum and $49 Squalane Calendula Hydrogel. The former is powered by a proprietary blend of copper peptides, licorice root and polyglutamic acid that the brand touts as having greater moisture retention effectiveness than hyaluronic acid, and the latter’s blue gel packed with soothing ingredients squalane, calendula and chamomile is designed to be the last step in evening skincare routines.

“Both of these products alleviate signs of irritation within as early as a day,” says Chang. “As you continue to use them, the benefits compound and deliver healing aid to your skin regardless of what it might be going through, whether its redness from eczema, sensitivity from using a bad product or something more situational like sunburn.”

Chang created 000Skin with two goals in mind: Address skin irritation and improve the appearance of the skin without makeup. Its tagline is, “No makeup day every day.” Chang emphasizes the tagline isn’t meant to be a knock on makeup wearers, but a reminder that it’s beneficial to give skin a rest from heavy cosmetics to breathe if it’s been agitated by makeup formulas.

“As someone who once had very irritated skin, I relied on foundation and concealer to cover up the redness,” says Chang. “I found that, while it offered a quick fix, it sadly slowed down my skin’s healing process.”

With 000Skin’s launch, it’s introducing what it calls the No Barrier Program sending free products to select consumers who don’t have the budget for them. “I am very much about accessibility, that is important,” says Chang. “When I was thinking about the products and pricing, I didn’t want financials to be a barrier for people to not be able to afford these products and try them out, especially if you have redness.”

The beauty industry has always been an integral part of Chang’s life. Growing up, she watched her Korean mom do a 10-step skincare regimen before the K-Beauty practice blew on up social media. Working in consumer consulting, she would dive into skincare content on TikTok. Chang left the corporate world to start 000Skin, and she’s documented the process of developing the self-funded brand, from designing its graphics to receiving its packaging, on TikTok.

“I’m using my own savings that I could be using for something else like a down payment on a house, but I’m putting it towards building the skincare brand that I’m very passionate about,” says Chang, who declines to divulge the extent of her investment in 000Skin. “So, what does that journey look like, and what does that mean?”

Two weeks prior to launch, 000Skin initiated a pre-sale and provided a preview of its products. During the pre-sale period, pre-sale orders amounted to half the brand’s debut inventory. Chang didn’t divulge the number of units she purchased for 000Skin’s launch. Also during the pre-sale period, she fielded two to three messages per day from people offering feedback.

“Customers, including myself for other brands, don’t like feeling so stratified from the brand,” says Chang. “I like that my feedback can be incorporated, and I don’t think that’s just from a consumer value perspective. I also as a brand owner really value when people give their opinions.”

New brand 000Skin is launching with $45 Relief Serum and $49 Squalane Calendula Hydrogel.

By the end of the year or early next, 000Skin is slated to grow its assortment with a face product and a body care product. Until then, Chang is focused on the brand’s first two products and soliciting responses from customers. She says she’s pumped to learn about “the big changes that hopefully they will see that I’ve seen with my skin.”

Chang hosted a launch party for 000Skin last Friday in New York City, where she lives. Around 200 people showed up, including friends, followers, family members, brand founders and investors. Chang is planning in-person activations in the spring and summer and is interested in intimate dinners where attendees can discuss their skin and 000Skin’s business. She says, “I would love to bring together the people that have been following the journey.”
